Volunteers must provide a minimum of 8 hours per month to be considered active. New volunteers must commit to at least nine months or 72 hours of service. If you have an hour’s requirement to meet for your school or service center, please email us at volunteer@animalcare.lacounty.gov. VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT. Volunteers help provide medical attention, food, shelter and love to every animal in our care. Volunteers are a vital part of our everyday operations. They help with: On-Site: Walking, socializing and enriching the lives of dogs. Caring for cats and kittens. Assisting in our spay/neuter clinic. 1810 Grant Avenue. Our Northeast Adoption Center typically houses 2-4 dogs and 30+ cats for adoption and is open 7 days a week. Our greatest needs are for our opening (9-11 a.m.) and closing (5-7 p.m.) shifts for both dog and cat care. The minimum age to volunteer is 10 years of age. Volunteers ages 10 - 15 must volunteer with a parent or guardian. Individuals 16 and older may volunteer without a parent or guardian.
